Lots of news and new features these last days (and more to come !).
We have just updated the homepage for AsiaCalculator.com - the changes are mainly graphical, tending towards a more sober, clean design - similar to what has been done by our sister company AsiaInspection.

One change though is that Buyers can now start signing up right from the homepage, as we tried to make the process as smooth as possible.

Great news for AsiaCalculator Freight Forwarders : you can now upload multiple Freight quotations as a batch in your AsiaCalculator.com account.

We wanted to make our Freight Forwarders' life easier : instead of posting quotes one by one, you can now download an Excel template, fill it with your freight fares, and re-upload it to your account.
This way, you may post up to 100 quotations and get more inquiries from AsiaCalculator.com Buyers.

How does it work ?

2. Select the freight mode you want to quote (sea, air, sea & air)
3. Download the corresponding Excel template

New: Forwarders rating, and multiple routes freight quotes

2 improved features made live today :

1. For Buyers :  A rating system for Freight Forwarders, allowing Buyers to get more than just prices; this was a recurrent feedback from both our importers and forwarders contacts : freight forwarding is not only about price, but also level of service.
We have therefore added several criteria on which Forwarders are rated:

• popularity = how many importers have already connected / selected that Forwarder
• rating = what do the buyers connected with that Forwarder say about him (on a simple 5 stars scale)
• evaluation = from an in-house survey, AsiaCalculator grades Forwarders on a 50 pts scale. Survey includes questions about time in business, certifications, extra services offered, etc.

2. For Freight Forwarders : the ability to simply set a Freight quote with multiple origins and / or destinations. This was asked especially since for some smaller destination countries, the quote will be exactly the same whatever the destination port / city.

Transportation Infrastructure

The Chinese Government is in the midst of a massive upgrade of its transportation infrastructure. Until recently, China’s economy was able to continue to grow despite deficiencies in infrastructure development. This is no longer the case, and the Chinese Government realizes that in order to keep their economy moving forward, they need an efficient system in place to move goods and people across this 9.326 billion sq. km. land mass. According to World Bank statistics, goods lost due to poor or obsolete transportation infrastructure amounted to one percent of China's GDP as recently as the most current survey (mid 1990's). Logistic costs account for 20% of a products price in China, compared to 10% in the U.S. (read more)

China ports risk excessive capacity according to report

China’s ports will face excessive transport capacity in 2009 according to Asia Pulse on contraction of port business with the unfolding of the international financial crisis and the slowdown of the Chinese economy.

Ports taking container transport as their main business have seen their throughputs from USlines decline persistently since April 2008, and the throughput of other commodities has also been affectedy the downturn of China's foreign trade.

The consumption drop in the US, Japan and European Union, which are the most important three economies for China's exports, affected Chinese ports' export etransport severely. According to industrial insiders, the demand for container transport is closely hinged with the stability and recovery of the US and EU economy. Calculated on previous demand growth, the demand growth of container transport in 2009 is 10 percent, that of bulk cargo transport is six percent and oil tank transport is two to three percent.
